OranmentspaintingsandcakeOne of the things I enjoy about this time of year in particular is the extra family time and our own special family traditions. Each year since my children have been little hush puppies, I have purchased a new holiday ornament for them for our tree.

One day, when they have become adults

and have families of their own. I will hand down the ornaments for them to enjoy.

When my oldest son was six years old, I began, a tradition of painting our windows using acrylic paint with Christmas trees, Santa or some sort of holiday theme. Each year a different scene. Our finishing touch is adding lights to jazz the window art up some. The lights add sparkle and it displays nicely from both the inside and out. I'm no Bob Ross, let me tell you! Yet, I seem to create passable works that my family enjoys. I know this as they always eagerly await what Mom pulls out of the hat this time! Last year, my fifteen year old daughter began, to join in that fun, and began painting with me. I get the holiday music going, light a few candles, get my cozy slippers on and lose myself a while in the magic of Christmas.

Thanksgiving and Christmas I make a layered Carrot Cake from scratch. That tradition has taken on a life of its own. Apparently, the cake is a real highlight of the holidays for them and that makes me very happy.

We warmly invite you to share with us in the comment section below. What are some of your family's traditions?
